HAZEL MEADES
Designer. Researcher. Writer.

ABOUT
I'm an UK-based UXer with a background in Music Technology and Psychology (BSc Dual Honours), and a penchant for storytelling.
When I first started to consider my career options, I knew I wanted to do something that was creative and helped people. I started applying my research skills to the world of UX after graduating from my MA in Ethnomusicology (the study of how music manifests in culture). Today I continue to enjoy exploring the field of research and design as an Associate UX Designer at LexisNexis Risk Solutions.
I have practical experience in a diverse range of projects, am passionate about digital accessibility, and am always looking to broaden my UX horizons.
FEATURED PROJECTS
DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS REPORT
18th December, 2020 - 8th January, 2021
I was commissioned to produce a design recommendations report that would form a communicative bridge between user needs, the marketing team and the development team for a palm oil tech startup (DIBIZ Global). My report advised on best practice design patterns and considerations for a mobile app.

GROCERY WATCH PITCH
9th-13th November 2020
As part of the IGD virtual work experience week, I designed an innovative technical solution to common grocery shopping pain points. My 5 minute product pitch to senior leaders in the industry was successfully shortlisted and won the Technology category.
UX RESCUE RESEARCH REPOSITORY
February - May 2021
I volunteered as a researcher on UX Rescue's research repository team. Our goal was to create a research repository that would be easy for future UX Rescue volunteers across the globe to use and maintain, regardless of their familiarity with UX research.

INSPIRATOR
May 2018 - Present
I designed and developed a prototype application for songwriters in the final year of my undergraduate degree. The purpose of Inspirator is to provide songwriters with an integrated platform to record compositional ideas. It has since become a passion project that I work on in my spare time.

MY LEARNING
Experience is an important part of learning to be the best UXer I can be, but so is learning in and of itself! Outside of my personal and professional UX projects, I enjoy improving my understanding of UX and the technology industry as a whole. So far, this has meant:
-
Attending weekly UX meet ups
-
Participating in multiple tech centric-courses and events with Code First Girls
-
Becoming a certified usability tester on multiple user testing platforms
-
Joining webinars and workshops at numerous UX conferences
-
Writing Medium articles about UX, technology and wellbeing.
