Designer. Researcher. Writer.
I'm an Essex-based UX Designer with a background in Music Technology and Psychology (BSc Dual Honours), and a penchant for storytelling.
When I first started to consider my career options, I knew I wanted to do something that was creative and helped people. I started applying my research skills to the world of UX after graduating from my MA in Ethnomusicology (the study of how music manifests in culture) and continue to enjoy exploring the field both as a usability tester and a freelance UX consultant.
I have practical experience in a diverse range of projects and am currently looking for my next role in UX research.
May 2018 - Present
I designed and developed a prototype application for songwriters in the final year of my undergraduate degree. The purpose of Inspirator is to provide songwriters with an integrated platform to record compositional ideas. It has since become a passion project that I work on in my spare time.
UNCONSCIOUS DATA BIAS PROTOTYPE
21st September -5th October, 2020
I took on the role of UX designer/front-end developer within a team for the Code First Girls Diversity Hackathon. We produced an MVP prototype designed to help HR analyse data and improve diversity in mid-large size companies.
THE GARDEN DATABASE
May 2020 - Present
I was commissioned as a UX consultant to design and develop a bespoke, user-friendly database that catalogues plant growth. The solution is designed to update the client's present method of garden record keeping.
DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS REPORT
18th December, 2020 - 8th January, 2021
I was commissioned to produce a design recommendations report that would form a communicative bridge between the user, the marketing team and the development team for a Malaysian tech startup (DIBIZ Global). The report advised on best practice design patterns and considerations for a mobile app.
Experience is an important part of learning to be the best UXer I can be, but so is learning in and of itself! Outside of my personal and professional UX projects, I enjoy improving my understanding of UX and the technology industry as a whole. So far, this has meant:
Attending weekly UX Learning Group meet ups at SHE software
Participating in multiple tech centric-courses and events with Code First Girls
Becoming a certified usability tester on multiple user testing platforms
Joining webinars and workshops at the UCD Gathering conference
Writing Medium articles about UX, technology and wellbeing.
